Quilting, which I started in 1987 as a hobby, has become my passion. Teaching since 1994 in local quilt shops, after school programs, in Adult Continuing Education along with lectures and workshops for various quilt guilds around the State of New York has given me deep satisfaction. I have served as past President of Q.U.I.L.T., Inc of Delmar, NY and am a member of AQS, NQA and the Crazy Quilt Society. My teaching includes traditional quilting which includes rotary cutting, piecing and hand quilting. My love is teaching crazy quilting and silk ribbon embroidery. One of my specialities includes designing quilts for families who have lost a loved one. Often, the person’s clothes and photos are used to personalize the quilt. I have worked with church groups as a teacher and designer to create special-event quilts. Most recently, I was an artist-in-residence at the Guilderland Elementary School, where 611 children participated in the making of a quilt to celebrate the town’s bicentennial. This turned out to be a learning experience not only for the children, but for me. One of my more memorable quilts was for a stepmother to give to her stepdaughter fashioned after the movie “Step Mom.” Many of these quilts incorporate not only traditional methods of quilting but ribbon art and embroidery. My on-line class on crazy quilting for Caron Threads called “Aren’t They Great” can be found in their archives for May 2001. My Hoffman Challenge crazy quilt was in their traveling exhibit for 2001-2002, and was displayed in Paducah, KY at the AQS Show in the Rotary exhibit in 2002. Teaching experience includes “Paul Smith’s Quilt Camp” and “Frost Valley’s YMCA Quilt Weekend” in New York. On the national level I was a teacher for the Crazy Quilt Society’s National Conference in Omaha, NE and have been a frequent teacher at Heartbeat Quilt Camp for Heartbeat Quilts in Hyannis, MA. When not quilting, I enjoy spending time with my husband and four children. Without their patience, support and understanding, I would not be able to accomplish so much.
